When it comes to naming their babies, Minnesota's parents march to a slightly different drummer than parents nationwide.
Last year, Ethan was the most popular name given to baby boys in the state, while Ava topped the list for girls, according to the Social Security Administration annual compilation of newborn names.
Nationally, Ethan came in third and Ava was ranked fifth. The most popular names picked by parents across the country were Jacob and Emily. Jacob has ranked first for this entire decade, while Emma has been in the top five since 2002.
Rounding out the 10 most popular names in Minnesota: Olivia, Emma, Sophia, Grace, Isabella, Abigail, Ella, Madison and Addison; Alexander, Logan, William, Jacob, Benjamin, Mason, Noah, Samuel and Gavin.
