A pedestrian who was struck by a semitrailer truck Wednesday afternoon while crossing the street near the University of Minnesota's East Bank campus died Thursday of his injuries, a Minneapolis police spokesman said Thursday.

The man, who hasn't yet been publicly identified, was crossing University Avenue SE., near Huron Boulevard, about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday when he was run over by the passing truck, according to police. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, police said.

The truck's driver, whose name also hasn't been released, remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, the department spokesman said. It wasn't immediately clear whether criminal charges would be pursued.
