Missing Crystal girl, boyfriend likely in Texas

Last update: April 3, 2009 - 8:42 PM

A missing 13-year-old girl from Crystal is believed to be in Texas with her 27-year-old boyfriend, and a warrant has been issued for the man's arrest.

Twin Cities resident Jose Alberto Rueda-Abrego and the girl, whose identity police are withholding, have been "in a significant relationship" for many months, said Crystal Police Lt. Dave Oyaas.

The girl's parents found out about the relationship recently, and that was "probably the basis for them taking off," Oyaas said.

The girl was last seen about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and reported missing more than 20 hours later, police said. Both were spotted in a borrowed pickup truck, which was located Wednesday unoccupied in Austin, Minn.

Oyaas said authorities have determined that Rueda-Abrego was in Texas on Wednesday, and "we suspect that they were together."

The warrant, signed Thursday, seeks Rueda-Abrego's arrest on suspicion of kidnapping, deprivation of parental rights and false imprisonment.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Crystal police at 763-531-1014.
