Bloomington police say a 19-year old man was fatally shot inside an apartment building late Thursday. No one has been arrested.

Officers were called to the Hampshire Hill Apartments off Hampshire Avenue and Old Shakopee Road about 10:45 p.m. Thursday. When they got there they found the man dead inside one of the units, Deputy Chief Denis Otterness said.

A preliminary investigation showed the victim suffered a single gunshot wound and that some kind of disturbance or struggle had taken place just before the shooting, Otterness said.

Few other details have been released by police, but a recording of the call posted on the website Police Clips indicates that the man might have been shot in the head during a robbery gone bad.

Otterness said police don't believe this was a random act, and there is no known immediate danger to nearby residents or the general public.

Dana Quinn, who lives on the third floor of the building, said police were going door to door asking residents if they saw anything. Quinn was sleeping, and did not.

"Hampshire Hills is a really nice area, so it's crazy. Even the officers said this is unusual," said Quinn. "It's a great place. People are super shocked."

The name of the victim and cause of death will be released by the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Crime Lab is helping with the investigation.
