A man was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis early Sunday after being shot by a Litchfield, Minn., police officer.

The incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Litchfield Avenue S., according to a news release from the Litchfield Police Department. The Police Department declined to release any details about what led up to the shooting.

The man who was shot is in critical condition and is in the intensive care unit, said Janell Rasmussen, spokeswoman for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). The BCA, which is investigating the shooting, also declined to release further details.
