A Maple Grove man has been charged with second degree attempted murder after allegedly shooting his girlfriend in the chest and face.

Mitchell John Antil, 52, told police that he shot the woman with buckshot after she entered the kitchen to and that "he knew what he was doing, he wanted to kill her," according to the criminal charge.

The woman came out of the home bleeding from her head and walked to a neighbor's. After she pulled her hand from her face to reveal the gunshot wound to the lower right side of her face, she slumped to the ground.

She later told police that Antil shot her, according to the criminal charge.

Antil is being held at the Hennepin County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
