Snowmobiler on Rum River injured when he loses control, slams into tree

Last update: February 9, 2009 - 6:54 AM

A 37-year-old man lost control of his snowmobile Sunday afternoon on the Rum River in Oak Grove and crashed into a tree.

The man, whose identity was not released, apparently suffered non-life-threatening head injuries and a broken arm, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. He was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He was the only person involved in the accident.

Authorities responded to the scene adjacent to the 22300 block of Tulip Street N.W. in Oak Grove about 12:10 p.m. The man's friend called 911.

Preliminary evidence suggests that speed led to the crash, according to the Sheriff's Office.
