Some rare good news for weekend road warriors: The interchange at Hwy. 280 and Interstate 35W in Roseville is now open, easing holiday travel for those heading north out of the metro area.

The interchange — which wasn't scheduled to reopen until mid-July — opened at noon Friday after nearly two months, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said. Since the beginning of May, crews had closed Hwy. 280 from Broadway north to I-35W to rebuild the ramps between 280 and the interstate.

Crews will continue to work on the median barrier on 280 from Como Avenue to Broadway. In August, resurfacing will require two weekend closures and detours.

The new layout and resurfacing will improve safety and cut down the traffic congestion in the area, according to an MnDOT news release.
