The driver whose unsecured load caused a motorcyclist to flip off his bike on Interstate 94 earlier this month has come forward.

Kyle R. Gunderson, 35, of Menomonie, Wis., contacted the Minnesota State Patrol after viewing a viral video of the crash and realizing his load was involved, the patrol said.

The video, taken by another driver's dashcam, shows motorcyclist Brendan Jankowski, 20, colliding with a rolled-up foam pad after it flew off the back of a boat pulled by Gunderson's SUV.

Jankowski, of Hudson, Wis., hit the bright yellow pad head-on, which flung him off his bike onto the pavement in the left lane of the highway.

Jankowski was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he was treated for minor injuries, according to the State Patrol.

The crash investigation — and whether Gunderson will be cited for his unsecured load — is ongoing, said State Patrol spokesman Bruce Gordon.

The patrol has issued about 1,000 citations or warnings for unsecured loads so far this year.
