A 9-year-old boy died Tuesday afternoon, two days after he was pulled from a private swimming pool in Shorewood, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff's Office said the Hennepin County medical examiner's office would release the boy's name and exact cause of death.

The boy was at the home in the 26000 block of Peach Circle on Sunday for a pool party with about a dozen other people, including his parents. He was found unresponsive in the pool about 3:15 p.m. and airlifted to a hospital.

In a news release, the Sheriff's Office said drownings typically are silent and it can take as little as 30 to 45 seconds for a child who cannot swim to drown.

"The only way to prevent this is to wear a life jacket," the Sheriff's Office said.

A fund has been set up for the family.
