The State Patrol has identified the man who died in a crash Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 394 in Minnetonka as 52-year-old Matthew Lynch.

Lynch was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on Ford Road when he failed to obey a stop sign at Wayzata Boulevard. He proceeded through the intersection, then crashed through a concrete freeway retaining wall at 2:27 p.m. and landed in the eastbound lanes of I-394 about 30 feet below, the State Patrol said.

Lynch was the lone occupant of the SUV.

His death was the 33rd reported on state roads this year, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety.

Earlier Wednesday, a semitrailer truck driver from Wisconsin was killed when his rig went off westbound I-94 near County Road 81 in Rogers and caught fire.

Edward Allen Riske, 65, died from multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. The State Patrol continues to investigate the death of Riske, from Marion, Wis.
