What's alleged: Brianna Broitzman, 19, and Ashton Larson, 18, were charged Monday with physically and sexually abusing seven residents over several months this year at Good Samaritan Society-Albert Lea. Four aides who were 17 at the time were charged as juveniles for not reporting suspected maltreatment, as required by law.

What the defendants say: The two women have not responded to a reporter's request for interviews. Attorney Lawrence Maas, of Austin, Minn., said he has asked for investigative documents as he prepares to defend Broitzman. He would not comment on the case. Michael Larson defended his daughter in a statement written for NBC's "Today" show last week. He said some of the allegations against his daughter are not "as they appear" and "have been distorted" in news accounts.

Court action: Larson and Broitzman are to appear Jan. 21 in Freeborn County District Court. The other four are to appear in juvenile court Jan. 15.
