Icy roads may have played a factor in a two-vehicle crash Thursday in northern Minnesota that left one person dead and seven others injured, the State Patrol said.

Brian Labarge, 40, of Hibbing, died in the collision about 5:45 p.m. on Hwy. 169 just east of St. Louis County Road 5 near Chisholm, the patrol said.

Labarge was a passenger in a pickup that went out of control near mile marker 345, crossed the median and hit a northbound pickup broadside, the patrol said.

Five others in the pickup Labarge was riding in were injured. Amy Rahne, 30, and Isabelle Rahne, 6, both of Coon Rapids, were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, where they were in critical condition. Jonathan Rahne, 32, of Coon Rapids, was taken to University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing with non-life threatening injuries, the patrol said.
