Rochester schools consider moving to four-day week.
ROCHESTER - A new committee will weigh the merits of adopting a four-day week for Rochester schools.
Superintendent Romain Dallemand announced the plans for the committee Tuesday night. He says he would like the group to be made of a cross-section of the community.
School administrators say they are looking at cuts of nearly $10 million in both 2009-10 and 2010-11. Cutting a school day a week would save on transportation and other costs.
The rural MACCRAY district is the only school district in the state with a four-day week. It has about 700 students while Rochester has about 16,300.
Dallemand noted, however, that 84 districts nationwide are on a four-day schedule.
