NTSB TO REVIEW BRIDGE REPORT

The National Transportation Safety Board will convene on Thursday in Washington, D.C., to publicly review a draft of its report on the Interstate 35W Bridge collapse.

At the meeting, which is expected to last two days, the board will discuss the findings of its investigation and make recommendations to prevent similar disasters.

The Minneapolis bridge collapsed Aug. 1, 2007, with more than 100 vehicles on it. Thirteen people died and 145 were injured. Sources with knowledge of the NTSB investigation have said that the bridge's original engineers probably had not calculated the proper thickness of some the steel plates that held the bridge together.
