Deli operator in St. Paul skyway pleads to 2 counts of failing to file tax returns

Last update: October 29, 2008 - 12:55 AM

A woman who runs a small deli in St. Paul's skyway system pleaded guilty Tuesday to two gross-misdemeanor counts of failing to file income tax returns.

Nancy L. Grote, 53, won't have to serve any jail time. The plea agreement, reached in Ramsey County District Court, calls for a stay-of-imposition sentence and community service. District Judge Margaret (Peg) Marrinan also ordered Grote to get a cash register for DD's Deli in the Alliance Bank Center and to cooperate with an audit.

Grote of West St. Paul had been charged with 15 counts of failing to file tax returns and failure to pay state income taxes. Thirteen of those counts were dismissed after her plea Tuesday.
