Multiple collisions leave three dead across state

Last update: October 22, 2008 - 1:50 AM

Three separate crashes across the state since Sunday have left three people dead.

One driver died after a two-vehicle crash on a highway in Todd County before dawn Tuesday, authorities said. The wreck occurred on Hwy. 71 about 3 miles south of Eagle Bend at about 6:30 a.m., when a southbound pickup truck and a compact car collided head-on, the State Patrol said. The driver was identified by the patrol as Brenda S. Dvorak, 58, of Bertha, Minn.

A few hours later, a van swerved over the center line on a highway near the Brainerd Airport and struck a semitrailer truck, killing the van's driver, authorities said. The crash occurred shortly after 10:15 a.m. on Hwy. 210, east of the airport, the State Patrol said. The eastbound van struck the westbound semi's rear axle as the truck attempted to avoid the van, the patrol said.

Allan D. Edwards, 53, of Deerwood, Minn., died at the scene. The truck driver was not hurt.

The Hennepin County medical examiner has identified a motorcyclist who died Sunday after colliding with a car in south Minneapolis as Amos Louis Sims III, 39, of Minneapolis.

The crash happened around 6:30 Sunday evening at Upton Avenue S. and W. 46th Street. Sims died at the scene.
