Work to repair a section of the West River Parkway damaged in a mudslide last summer begins today and will continue through late October.
Crews will be working six days per week in the section between the Franklin Avenue Bridge and Fourth Street S. They'll install five retaining walls on property owned by the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board and the University of Minnesota Medical Center.
Meanwhile, Hennepin County is working to repair the Franklin Avenue Bridge this summer and fall, replacing bridge decking and improving the west pier of the bridge. The area will continue to be closed until the work is complete.
Work on the slope damaged by the mudslide is expected to cost $6 million, but park district and university officials hope a large portion of the cost will be reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
