She got to the corner of 60th and Abbott Avenues N. when a man approached and hit her over the head several times with the barrel of a large revolver.
A 19-year-old woman was robbed and assaulted as she walked home in Brooklyn Center on Thursday, and police are asking for help in finding a suspect.
The woman got off a Metro Transit bus about 9:30 p.m. at 61st Avenue N. and Brooklyn Blvd. and stopped at a gas station before walking home, police said.
She got to the corner of 60th and Abbott Avenues N. when a man approached and hit her over the head several times with the barrel of a large revolver. During the assault, the suspect fired the gun once into the air.
The suspect took the woman's backpack and fled. Police believe the suspect was in the store at the same time as the victim. They also believe the suspect is connected to a red compact vehicle caught on surveillance tape at a gas station near where the woman got off the bus. The victim told police she noticed a red car following her before the attack, said police Cmdr. Stu Robinson.
The victim suffered several lacerations but managed to escape and call for help.
