New days for Gopher 5 drawings

For the first time since the Gopher 5 lottery game began more than 17 years ago, its drawing days are changing.

Starting next Monday, Gopher 5 will move to three drawings per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), up from two (Tuesday and Friday). There are no changes to odds or prizes.

This change should result in larger jackpots more often, "which is something players have asked for," state lottery officials said Monday in their announcement.

Gopher 5 drawings have occurred every Tuesday and Friday since the first drawing on May 24, 1991. On Nov. 8, 2005, the jackpot reached a record $2,032,201.
