A Brooklyn Park couple is charged with bilking more than $300,000 from the Department of Human Services, according to charges filed Tuesday.

Sandra R. Bakare and her husband, Abimbola Bakare, both 43, allegedly filed false personal care assistance (PCA) and qualified professional (QP) timesheets for the company they co-owned, Dependable Care, Inc.

Sandra Bakare owned 51 percent stake in the company, and allegedly filed $303,534.04 in false claims. She is charged in Ramsey County District Court with seven counts of theft by false representation and seven counts of medical assistance fraud.

Abimbola Bakare allegedly filed $30,288.50 in false claims, and is charged with one count of medical assistance fraud.

According to the complaint: The crimes occurred between 2010 and 2013. The company employed four "qualified professionals," but filed false claims for PCA and QP work that was never completed.

Sandra Bakare submitted the bulk of the claims to DHS electronically, the charges said, although she told an investigator that her husband was responsible for the billing.

"She further explained that Abimbola did all the billing either at Dependable's office or at the Brooklyn Center Library, and [Sandra Bakare] denied knowing how Abimbola billed," the complaint said.
