KESHENA, Wis. — State officials have reopened Highway 47 in Kenesha after flooding closed off traffic for several days.

Flooding started in Keshena last week as ice jams started holding back the Wolf River in northeastern Wisconsin. On Tuesday, the state Department of Transportation closed Highway 47 because of the danger the rising water posed to drivers.

WBAY-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1GyKkIl) reports that the department inspected and opened the roadway Friday after Menominee tribal and county officials took a new approach to the problem Thursday.

Ben Warrington, emergency management coordinator for the Menominee Indian Tribe, says they replaced sandbags with a berm system to section off the high water and used special pumps to remove it.

The river has gone down by more than 6 inches. Officials will monitor water levels over the weekend.
