A White Bear Lake High School student died last week as a result of hanging, authorities said Monday.

Sawyer Moeller, 14, died last Friday after he was injured the week before at his school. Police and the boy's family have referred to Moeller's death as an accident.

Moeller's cause of death was determined Monday by the Ramsey County medical examiner's office.

According to police, a little after 4 p.m. on Nov. 10, authorities responded to a report of a medical situation involving a student at the high school's North Campus at 5045 Division Av.

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive boy who appeared to have an abrasion on his neck. Moeller was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

"We are of the belief that this was truly an accident," said Capt. Dale Hager of the White Bear Police Department. The police are not looking for any suspects, he said.

Hager said there were no witnesses to the incident, and that it occurred in the school's performing-arts area. After the medical examiner's office makes its final report on Moeller's death, the police will release more information, Hager said.
