Two St. Paul men allegedly robbed a TCF Bank at gunpoint last week and fled, apparently unaware that authorities were following them via a GPS tracking device that had been placed with the money.

Adrian L. Kinerd, 36, and Tashawn J. Shively, 31, each were charged Monday in Ramsey County District Court with three counts of first-degree aggravated robbery.

The men allegedly robbed the bank, at 1988 Suburban Av., St. Paul, on Thursday, according to the charges. Shively allegedly drove the car the men fled in, with Kinerd in the front passenger seat.

According to the complaint, one of the suspects threatened to shoot a teller unless their demands were met. The charges did not say which suspect brandished the gun and made the threat.

Because of the GPS tracking device, authorities traced the suspects to Interstate 94 at Johnson Parkway and began following them as they drove west. Police initiated a traffic stop, causing them to slow.

According to the charges, Kinerd made "furtive movements" while looking back at police, and allegedly reached down to the floor of the car and the front of the passenger seat.

After the suspects stopped on the shoulder of I-94 near the Cedar Avenue exit in Minneapolis, police ordered the men out and arrested them.

Police found an unloaded .22 caliber handgun under the driver's seat, the complaint said. The gun matched the description provided by a witness at the bank.

A black backpack containing a shoulder satchel stuffed with money — and the GPS tracker — was recovered from the car, as were masks, gloves and clothing.
