A man accused of striking his girlfriend in the head with a gun in a church in the southwest metro was arrested Sunday, authorities said.

Before his capture, Johnathon D. Herring, 32, was identified by police in Jordan as the man who carried out the attack about 9 p.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church.

No shots were fired in the domestic incident, police said. The woman was treated for her injuries at a hospital, then released.

Other than announcing Herring's apprehension Sunday afternoon, police have yet to disclose the circumstances leading to his arrest.

Herring was believed to have fled in a vehicle stolen from a home in Jordan, according to authorities.

His criminal history includes convictions for domestic assault, fleeing police and second-degree burglary.
