Brooklyn Center police are investigating a double shooting Tuesday afternoon in a commercial area off Hwy. 252 that sent two men to the hospital.

Police were called about 1:15 p.m. to the 600 block of 66th Avenue N. on a report of a shooting. According to police reports, one man was shot in the face near Checkers Drive In. The other was found shot outside the adjacent SuperAmerica gas station.

Both were taken to a hospital and did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, police said.

Two suspects were arrested. Police don't believe there are others and said that the shooting was not random. Officers found two handguns and a vehicle that was thought to be involved.

Checkers assistant manager Joel Walker said he was working the drive-through when he heard gunshots and ran outside to find a wounded man.

"Blood was everywhere and he was trying to get back in his vehicle," Walker said, adding the man's jeans and jacket were soaked in blood.

Another witness said the man crawled across the parking lot before propping himself up on a car. Several men from a nearby barbershop then ran to his side with towels to staunch the bleeding before EMTs whisked him away.

According to police reports, the victims were taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

But the incident rattled people like Walker. "We're just not safe out here," he said.

On Nov. 1, two men were shot at a Denny's in Brooklyn Center, the same site of a shooting a week earlier.
