A middle-of-the-night rollover crash killed one 17-year-old and injured two other teens near Alexandria, authorities said.

The damaged pickup truck was spotted about 2:40 a.m. Friday by a passing motorist on Douglas County Road 23, south of Interstate 94, in Hudson Township, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Killed was Michael W.S. Schluter, 17, the Sheriff's Office said. Today would have been Schluter's 18th birthday.

Flown by air ambulances to "advanced care facilities" were Jonathon T. Salto and Jordan A. Grueneich, both 17. The extent of their injuries were not disclosed.

The Sheriff's Office said it has yet to determine who was driving when the pickup rolled over on southbound County Road 23. All three boys were thrown from the vehicle, making it likely that none was wearing a seat belt.

All three were students in Alexandria, authorities added. Schluter was a member of the varsity wrestling team for Alexandria High School.

Friday was the second of two days that students throughout the state were off school for what has become known as MEA Weekend, when many of the state's teachers attend workshops.
