A 60-year-old Rosemount man died Saturday after being pulled from Parley Lake in Carver County, just 24 hours after a 6-year-old drowned in the same lake.

Both incidents were related to waterfowl hunters trying to get on the lake around sunrise, said Sheriff Jim Olson.

Dean W. Buetow, 60, was pulled unconscious from the lake around dawn and taken to Waconia Ridgeview Medical Center, then transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

At 6:22 a.m., a 911 caller had reported that a man fell from his boat and couldn't be found in the 19-foot-deep lake. Deputies found him in the water.

Friday, 6-year-old Hunter A. Heyrman, of St. Bonifacius, was set to ride along while his father went duck-hunting, but the family's boat drifted away from the dock with the boy in it.

Neither victim was believed to be wearing a life jacket, and the sheriff urged both life jackets and caution when on the lake, especially early in the morning.

"People are going out in boats, it's dark outside, the water temperature is dropping as it gets later in the year, so that makes it more dangerous for people who are going out on the water," Olson said.

Friday, Hunter's father, Chad Heyrman, had called 911 at 6:24 a.m. to report his boat was adrift with his son aboard alone. The father tried to swim to retrieve the boat and pull it to shore but was unsuccessful, the Sheriff's Office said.

"Dad was getting ready to go … and the boy was just going to be with Dad," Olson said.

First responders came from the Waconia Fire Department, Ridgeview Ambulance service and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

A short time later, rescuers located the empty boat. Deputies found Hunter in the water next to the shoreline.

Rescuers tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at Waconia Ridgeview Hospital.
