Seven agents of the Transportation Security Administration were hospitalized briefly Friday after reported exposure to fumes at a Twin Cities airport checkpoint, but officials said no cause was discovered. All seven were examined at Hennepin County Medical Center and released by 2 p.m.

Amanda Greene Guentzel, spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Airports Commission, said there were reports of a smoky odor about 9:30 a.m. at Checkpoint 2 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Investigation by the airport's fire department revealed no fire, and there was no visible smoke, she said. Electricians also checked the area and found nothing amiss.

Seven agents were taken by ambulance to the hospital after reporting feeling ill. Two additional officers left work and went home under their own power.

Checkpoint 2 was closed for an hour and 12 minutes and then reopened. The incident had no effect on airport operations, Greene Guentzel said.
