The 2009 Minnesota duck stamp contest has been won by an artist from Freeport -- and he's been there before.

Scot Storm's painting of two common goldeneyes will grace the Department of Natural Resource's migratory waterfowl stamp next year, the DNR said this afternoon.

His acrylic painting was chosen from among 28 entries.

Storm, 46, also won this contest in 2004, as well as claiming first in the state's pheasant habitat stamp contests in 2000 and 2006.

The $7.50 duck stamp is required of waterfowl hunters ages 18-64. Sales of the stamp, ranging from $500,000 to $900,000 annually, help fund habitat enhancement in state wildlife management areas and shallow lakes.

There is no prize for the winner, but the artist retains the right to reproduce the work.

Judging for the Federal Waterfowl Stamp contest will take place at the Bloomington Art Center on Oct. 18, marking the first time Minnesota has hosted the event.
