Co-workers on Monday remembered Perry Goffard, killed Sunday in a work accident in Hopkins, as a loyal union member and an avid fan of the Minnesota Wild and the Green Bay Packers.

"He was a real nice guy," said co-worker Todd Kalk. "People are upset."

Goffard, 51, of Minneapolis, died Sunday when he was pinned by machinery at the Supervalu Food Distribution Center.

A preliminary investigation by Hopkins police indicated no criminal action, said a police spokesman. Minnesota OSHA, which is investigating the case, did not return calls about the incident Monday.

Goffard, who worked as an order selector, was a cheerful co-worker and a big fan of the Wild and the Packers, Kalk said, adding, "We used to tease him about that."

Tom Erickson, a spokesman for Teamsters Local 120, said Goffard was a proud Teamster and "a great man."

"What happened is a tragedy, and Perry will be missed," Erickson said. "Teamster Local 120 is offering its condolences and support to Perry's family at this difficult time."

Supervalu is cooperating with both police and state OSHA, said spokesman Jeff Swanson. "Our primary concern today continues to be for the employee's family, as well as all of our employees, who are dealing with this difficult tragedy," he said.
