Got butter? Princess Kay can say 'Yes!'

David Brewster, Star Tribune

Princess Kay of the Milky Way -- Kristy Mussman of Claremont -- is getting her likeness carved in butter by Linda Christensen.

Last update: August 21, 2008 - 8:11 PM

It’s tradition for the newly crowned Princess Kay of the Milky Way to have her likeness carved in butter on Day 1 of the State Fair.

This year’s Princess Kay is U of M student Kristy Mussman, 19, of Claremont, Minn., who represented Steele County.

The 11 other finalists also will have their likenesses sculpted from 90-pound blocks of butter.

This year, sculptor Linda Christensen will ply her tools in a new butter booth in the Dairy Building on Judson Street.

Each princess gets to keep her sculpture.
