Gay couples who said "I do" on Aug. 1, 2013 in Minnesota are celebrating their first anniversary. The first two couples to be married at Minneapolis City Hall by Mayor R.T. Rybak had dinner together on Thursday night.

Margaret Miles and Cathy ten Broeke and Al and Jeff Giraud-Isaacson toasted their anniversaries at Mattie's on Main in Minneapolis.

"We have become really good friends with them," Al Giraud-Isaacson said about the first couple to get married in MInneapolis right after the stroke of midnight. "They have a beaufitul family. It was a lot of fun to meet with them, talk about our year, our experience...talked about all the good."

Rybak posted a message on Giraud-Isaacson's Facebook page. "Thinking a lot about you guys and the wonderful night we had one year ago," wrote Rybak.

Miles and her spouse said they have had a wonderful year celebrating the legalization of their marriage. "We continue to be surprised and comforted by the many ways our family feels safer and more secure," Miles said.

They have been overwhelmed by the support from strangers who react in a positive way when they refer to each other as spouse.
