14-month-old girl was outside home with two other children.
A 14-month-old girl died Monday afternoon after a family member backed over her with an SUV at their Brooklyn Center home, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call Monday afternoon at a home in the 5400 block of Colfax Avenue N. The child was outside with two other children, and the driver thought that they were all clear of the vehicle as it backed up, said Brian Peters, commander for the Brooklyn Center police investigations division.
The girl was dead when police arrived, Peters said.
The family member, whose relationship to the child has yet to be released, readily cooperated with police, Peters said. No drugs or alcohol were involved, he said.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol and Brooklyn Center Police Department are investigating, Peters said.
A woman at the home where the incident occurred declined to comment late Monday afternoon, saying it was a difficult time.
