MERRILL, Wis. — A Lincoln County man convicted of killing his wife and disposing of her body in a swamp was sentenced Thursday to 35 years in prison.

Mark Bucki, 50, will be able to petition for release after he serves his time. But Judge Jay Tlusty suggested it was unlikely Bucki would win extended release, WAOW-TV reported (http://bit.ly/1pZrZez).

"Mr. Bucki will spent the remainder of his life in the criminal justice system. He will never be a free man," Tlusty said.

Bucki was convicted in April in the death of his wife Anita, 48. She had been strangled and stabbed in the chest seven times before her body was dumped about 20 miles from the couple's home. Her body was found in May 2013.

Anita Bucki's family and the prosecution asked for life without the possibility of extended supervision, the Wausau Daily Herald reported. The paper reported her sister, Cheryl Kruse described the pain of arranging Anita Bucki's funeral and having to cut Mark Bucki out of photos.

Mark Bucki's son, Clint, sought leniency, saying he was convinced his father was innocent.
