Motorists traveling in the Interstate 35W-Hwy. 36-Hwy. 280 commons in Roseville and near the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis will encounter lane and road closings this weekend.
Starting at 5 p.m. today, several streets near Metrodome will closed because of tonight's Minnesota Vikings-Seattle Seahawks game. The streets are being shut down for security reasons, the City of Minneapolis said.
The following streets will be closed until one hour after the game is over. The game begins at 7 p.m.
• 5th Street from 11th Avenue to Park Avenue
• Chicago Avenue, from 3rd Street to 6th Street
• 4th Street, from Park Avenue to Interstate Hwy. 35W.
• Norm McGrew Place, from 3rd Street to 4th Street
In Roseville, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction in the Interstate 35W-Hwy. 36-Hwy. 280 commons this weekend as the Minnesota Department of Transportation continues a repaving project. Some ramps in the area also will be closed, MnDOT said.
These restrictions will be in place from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday:
•The northbound lanes of I-35W in the commons section will be restricted to a single lane of traffic.
•The ramps from westbound Hwy. 36 to northbound I-35W and from Cleveland Avenue to northbound I-35W will be closed.
•During the closure, traffic will detour north on Snelling Avenue to Interstate 694 or south on I-35W to Industrial Boulevard and back north on I-35W.
These restrictions and closures will be in place from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday:
•The ramp from southbound I-35W to Hwy. 280 will be closed for concrete pavement repair. Motorists will be able to reach Hwy. 280 from southbound I-35W in the commons area.
•Work on the project will be suspended from Aug. 18 through Sept. 7 during the Minnesota State Fair. Work will resume after the fair.
