Science Museum of Minnesota officials announced Wednesday they have extended the run of the traveling blockbuster exhibit "Star Wars" by three days. It will now close on Aug. 27.

The exhibit, featuring 80 costumes, models and props from all six "Star Wars" films, was scheduled to close Aug. 24. But museum officials said they will add the extra dates to accommodate high ticket demand and still be ready to host events associated with the Republican National Convention Sept. 1-4 at the nearby Xcel Energy Center.

As of Wednesday, more than 175,000 visitors had toured the show developed by the Museum of Science in Boston in conjunction with Lucasfilm LTD. Attendance is on pace to reach the goal of 250,000 visitors, the most since 750,000 came to see "Body Worlds" during its lengthy run in 2006, museum spokeswoman Gail Vold Greco said.

St. Paul is the final stop on the exhibit's North American tour. Tickets are available at 651-221-9444.
