According to St. Paul police, the woman, who is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, was attacked by several people with baseball bats. The woman was struck in the arms, upper body and head. After knocking the woman to the ground, the suspects -- who didn't say anything during the attack -- fled with the victim's headphones.
Police spokesman Peter Panos said homicide and gang investigators are working on the case.
The woman, who was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, has not been identified.

Repairs needed after an accident on the Stillwater Lift Bridge have been completed ahead of schedule.
The 77-year-old bridge had been closed for most of the past few weeks to allow crews to fix several cross braces and vertical supports that were damaged July 7.
The bridge was struck by a lumber delivery truck heading westbound into Minnesota. The driver, 70-year-old Elwyn Juenke of Farmington, was cited for inattentive driving.
Repairs didn't take as long as expected after Minnesota Department of Transportation officials first announced that the bridge wouldn't open until mid-August.
The historic lift bridge between Stillwater and Houlton, Wis., spans the St. Croix River.

There's another honor for the late civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks.
The Mayo Clinic has renamed its Pavilion Building to the Rosa Parks Pavilion.
Mayo Clinic facilities administrator Craig Smoldt has said discussions to rename a clinic building started shortly after Parks died in 2005 and it became clear what kind of lasting impact she would have.
In 1955, Parks refused to give her bus seat to a white man in Alabama. She was arrested, leading to the Montgomery bus boycott, a defining moment in the civil rights movement.
A private dedication ceremony will be held Thursday. It will include key civil rights leader Ozell Sutton.
The metallic letters on the building were installed Friday.
