Recent Minnesota aviation deaths

Nov. 2007: Four died in a small-plane crash at Faribault airport when it flipped and burst into flames while landing.

Dec. 2005: Three died in a four-seat Cirrus SR22 when it plowed into a field in rural Lincoln County.

June 2004: Four died in a single-engine Cessna 206 after the plane clipped a roof and crashed in a field near Owatonna.

Aug. 2003: Three died in a midair collision between two single-engine planes over Lake Elmo.

March 2003: Three died when a four-seater, single-engine Cessna crashed in a field near Foley.

1974: On Aug. 9, Aug. 10 and Sept. 11, 1974, three small planes crashed in the state, killing a total of 20 people.

STATE'S DEADLIEST PLANE CRASHES

Dec. 1993: Eighteen died when a Northwest Airlink commuter plane crashed into a mine dump near Hibbing.

March 1950: A Northwest Airlines Martin 202 crashed into three houses in Minneapolis, killing the 10 passengers, the crew of three and two children in one house.

June 1956: A Navy Panther jet developed engine trouble over south Minneapolis, killing the pilot and 10 people on the ground, mostly children.

Oct. 2002: Sen. Paul Wellstone and seven others died when their chartered twin-engine plane crashed in the woods near Eveleth.
