St. Paul autistic girl, 17, found safe in Eagan

An autistic teenage girl who wandered away from her St. Paul home early Wednesday was found Thursday, police said.

Eagan police located Maricruz Zambrano around 6:45 a.m. near Pilot Knob Road and Duckwood Drive, police said.

"She was fine and in good health," said St. Paul police spokesman Peter Panos.

According to St. Paul police, Zambrano, 17, left her home in the 1400 block of York Avenue between 1:45 and 5 a.m. She was seen around 5 p.m. Wednesday at a Wal-Mart store in Eagan, police said.

It's not clear how she got to Eagan, police said.
