Help sought in ID'ing body found in river

Last update: July 12, 2008 - 9:47 PM

Dakota County authorities want help in identifying the body of a man found dead in the Vermillion River in Hastings Friday.

The body showed no obvious signs of foul play, but an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death, said Chief Deputy Sheriff Dave Bellows.

He said the sheriff's office received a call about 11:35 a.m. Friday reporting the body in the river below Hwy. 61 in Vermillion Falls Park.

The man appears to be Hispanic or Middle Eastern and in his late 30s or early 40s, with short black hair and a receding hairline. He was wearing red underwear when found.

Hastings police Chief Mike McMenomy said he is unaware of any missing men of that description in his city.

Anyone with information is asked to call 651-322-2323 or the sheriff's tip line, 651-438-8477.
