As soon as the show ended, social media erupted with commentary and debate about whether her 155-pound weight loss had crossed the line.

Stillwater native Rachel Frederickson’s 155-pound weight loss was enough to win the grand prize of $250,000 in the season 15 finale of the “Biggest Loser,” which aired Tuesday on NBC.

Frederickson, 24, also set a record for the highest percentage of weight loss for any player in history of the show. She weighed 260 pounds at the start of competition and finished at 105 pounds.

During the show she said the weight loss allowed her to move forward in life knowing she can “take control of whatever she wants.”

Frederickson was a three-time state swimming champion in the 100-yard butterfly during high school.

Immediately following Tuesday’s show, Twitter was ablaze with comments critical of Frederickson’s shocking transformation. Some of the online commenters aimed their objections at Frederickson, while others blamed the show for allowing her to lose so much weight. Frederickson’s trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels, who had not seen Frederickson since October, appeared surprised by her new physique.

Amidst “way-to-go” missives and some tweeters pointing out that she had to lose the highest percentage of weight to win the title, came a torrent of comments.

The show's finale will likely add to the ongoing debate about whether extreme weight-loss for entertainment is in the best interest of contestants.
