Authorities on Monday identified the man who was shot outside a banquet hall in Brooklyn Park by police responding to a large fight.

Shoua Yang, 22, of Minneapolis, is being treated for wounds suffered late Saturday from police gunfire in the parking lot of the Buasavanh Banquet Hall in the 7300 block of Lakeland Avenue N., said spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson of the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.

Johnson declined to reveal the seriousness of Yang’s wounds. She also withheld the name of the hospital where he is being treated, citing “security reasons.”

Yang is in police custody on suspicion of felony assault. Johnson had no details to release about the circumstances surrounding the allegation or why police shot him, citing the ongoing investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office has taken over investigation of the incident at the request of the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
