A man who succumbed Saturday night to gunshot wounds he suffered Thursday is the first Minneapolis homicide victim of 2014.
Police said officers were sent to a report of a shooting at 45th Street and 1st Avenue S. at 9:17 p.m. Thursday. A man was seen limping away from the scene, the report added.
Minnesota State Patrol troopers found the man shortly after 9:30 p.m. in a vehicle on the freeway entrance ramp from 35th Street to northbound Interstate 35W. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died Saturday night.
A 24-year-old man was arrested Sunday in connection with the man’s death and is expected to be charged early this week. The victim has not been identified.
In St. Paul, police reported that the city’s second homicide of the year happened early Sunday in the Frogtown neighborhood.
About 2 a.m., officers responded to an assault in the 500 block of Van Buren Avenue, near Dale Street and Minnehaha Avenue. They found a man dead. No arrests have been made and the victim has not been identified.
