A motel in Burnsville caught fire early Wednesday, causing no injuries but shutting down the business and sending occupants elsewhere for lodging, authorities said.

The blaze started shortly before 12:30 a.m. in a second-floor room at the Travelodge just off the Burnsville Parkway exit of Interstate 35W, according to fire officials.

The flames were quickly doused, leaving mostly smoke damage but also some from the flames, Fire Chief B.J. Jungmann said.

The fire, however, required the water and electricity to be shut off, the chief added. That forced the motel's occupants to be moved to a neighboring hotel.

The fire's cause remains under investigation.
