Woman who lost her baby is arrested

Last update: July 5, 2008 - 6:41 AM

A north Minneapolis woman was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and endangerment early Friday morning.

According to Sgt. Jesse Garcia of the Minneapolis Police Department, the 41-year-old woman took her two-month-old baby boy from her boyfriend's home without his knowledge around 11 p.m. Thursday. When the woman returned around 4 a.m., intoxicated and without the child, the boyfriend called authorities.

The infant was soon found by police at a doorstep a block away.

"Thankfully the officers were able to quickly backtrack and find where she left the child," Garcia said. "We think it was just a random doorstep."

The child has been returned to the custody of the father, Garcia said. The woman was booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
