Truck rollover near Lanesboro closes highway

Last update: July 3, 2008 - 3:22 PM

A tanker truck rolled over near Lanesboro, Minn., shortly after noon today, leaking ethanol and closing the two-lane highway in both directions, authorities said.

The truck crashed on Hwy. 16 just southwest of Lanesboro, and the leak is reaching a river, the State Patrol said.

Patrol Capt. Randy Slinger said the highway is expected to remain closed for at least the rest of the afternoon. First, Slinger said, the ethanol that is still in the tanker must be transferred to another truck before the disabled vehicle can be removed.

The truck driver was briefly trapped in his cab and is doing fine, Slinger said.
