The penalties

Last update: July 2, 2008 - 10:55 PM

Under a Minnesota law passed in 2005, anyone convicted of gasoline theft, including a gas station drive-off, will have their driver's license suspended for a month.

A gasoline theft of less than $250 and stealing a license plate are both misdemeanors, with a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail and/or a fine of $1,000.
