Ex-hockey star accused in drunken break-in

Last update: June 30, 2008 - 8:06 AM

A former standout Minnesota high school hockey player who has moved on to a major college program has been charged with breaking into a woman's home in the middle of the night while drunk near the University of Minnesota.

Dartmouth College forward Adam Estoclet, 19, was arrested June 4 after he broke into a home in southeast Minneapolis shortly before 4 a.m. while trying to elude police with another 19-year-old man, police said.

Soon after his arrest, Estoclet's blood-alcohol reading was .162 percent, more than twice the legal limit for driving in Minnesota, according to the charges.

The former star at Benilde-St. Margaret High School in St. Louis Park entered the room of a sleeping woman, grabbed her cell phone to apparently call his mother and fled, police said. Police said they nabbed Estoclet a short time later with the help of his mother.

According to an incident report, two officers were driving on Como Avenue SE. approaching 13th Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. when they came upon two men standing in the road.

When police slowed to let the men pass, a man later identified as Estoclet put his hands in the air and refused to move. When the other man tried to pull him out of the car's way, police saw Estoclet stagger. Officers stopped their car and summoned the men, who both backed up and began running. Estoclet took a cast off his leg before he took off, police said.

When the second man was caught, he admitted to officers that both had been drinking at a party. Estoclet was arrested at about 4 a.m. near Broadway and Johnson Street NE.

Estoclet, of Orono, was jailed on suspicion of felony burglary, fleeing police and underage drinking. Bail was posted, and he was released 12 hours later. Last week, he was charged with fourth-degree burglary, a gross misdemeanor.

In his senior year at Benilde, Estoclet scored 69 points in 27 games and was the second player in school history to score 100 points in two seasons.

At Division I Dartmouth last season, Estoclet played in all 32 games and record three goals and four assists.

As of today, Estoclet remains listed on Dartmouth roster.
