Body of Fridley man found in Mississippi River

Authorities recovered the body of a 59-year-old Fridley man from the Mississippi River on Sunday afternoon.

Two canoeists near Riverfront Regional Park in Fridley saw a body about 2 p.m. and alerted authorities, a dispatcher for the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said.

The body was recovered later in the afternoon.

Authorities said the body appeared to have been in the water for several days and bore no visible wounds. Police said the man's name would not be released until his relatives had been notified.

Riverfront Regional Park runs along the Mississippi River west of East River Road and south of Interstate Hwy. 694.

The sheriff's department's water rescue team accompanied Fridley police and fire in the search.
